Reverse Lime Rate Calculator
This web app calculates the estimated soil pH resulting from application of a particular amount and source of agricultural lime. Estimates are relevant to
results from the Clemson University Soil Testing Laboratory, which uses the
Adams-Evans buffer method.
This calculator can be useful in evaluating resulting pH when recommended lime rates cannot be
satisfied, for instance when availability, time, or field conditions are limiting.
We call this a "reverse" lime rate calculator because this web app does not provide a lime recommendation;
instead, it outputs a resulting soil pH from a user-specified lime rate.
If you need to know a recommended lime rate for a target soil pH, please use our
Lime Rate Calculator
instead.
The Reverse Lime Rate Calculator uses rearranged versions of the same equations used in
our "standard" Lime Rate Calculator. User inputs include soil pH and buffer pH from
soil test results, mixing depth, lime rate, and relative neutralizing value for lime source.
Please visit Clemson's Agricultural Service Laboratory to submit a sample for analysis.
Note: Clemson recommends using a 4 inch mixing depth for non-incorporated lime applications,
for example, applications for lawns, turfgrass, and no-till strategies.
Relative Neutralizing Value (RNV) can generally be obtained from your lime supplier and can be directly
entered here or calculated as a function of Calcium Carbonate Equivalent (CCE) and
Fineness Factor (FF).
